VEHICLE WRAPS & RACING SUITS

Within The Hertz Group, our two primary brands are Hertz and Thrifty. As a result, our franchise network across Australia, New Zealand & the Asia-Pacific region spans far. I have had the privilege of working quite closely with a few major franchises on some outstanding & fascinating projects.

Vehicle Wraps

Back in October 2025, a specific franchisee who regularly sponsors race club events in their region reached out as they wanted to wrap two vehicles. The idea was to brand & wrap a car with Hertz branding as well as a car with Thrifty branding that could be bought onsite to events that this franchisee was sponsoring. From the get go, I was given a lot of trust from this franchisee and the goal was to curate something really impact and engaged that aligned with our branding that would ultimately make event-goers pause & say wow.

For Hertz, we wrapped a Toyota Kluger. It was important that we were selecting a vehicle that this franchisee not only had a high volume of within their fleet, but was also commonly rented within that area as the sub-goal of this project was to highlight what that franchise could offer to their community. What was really fun about this, was the fact that Hertz had updated their brand guidelines only 6ish months prior to include some more dynamic colours & overall visual executions of branding. This meant we had a bit more leeway with tone & colour and what we ended up with was this really cool soft gold/yellow gradient that wrapped around the vehicle. As it was a 7-seater Kluger, the vehicle itself was already quite large, but we intentionally selected a white model so that the Hertz yellow would truely sing & pop in any setting. It was very hard to ignore!

Switching over to Thrifty, we wrapped a Mitsubishi Eclipse which is also a large vehicle. We wanted this one to feel a little different to the Hertz & ensure the application of branding was different so went with the back half of the vehicle covered in Thrifty’s strong brand blue, sectioned by Thrifty’s brand defining rainbow. Aside from some very blue logos, we kept the rest of the car quite clean. Also having opted for a light grey/silver, it meant that those rainbow colours & Thrifty blue could do exactly what we intended, which was wow.

I was very fortunate that when both designs for the vehicles wraps were presented to external stakeholders, that everyone was on board. It’s not often to experience a seamless approval process so the fact that this project flew as seamlessly as it did, is a win in itself & is a testimony to the research and understanding of the brief that was taken prior.

I was fortunate enough to attend the event and see both vehicles in person and I definitely achieved that wow moment. Often, it’s quite easy to be stuck behind your desk & move from brief to brief without being able to experience the final result so experiencing this moment in person was really special & the event itself was great!

RACING SUITS

Another project within the franchisee and sponsor space was working for a different franchisee to curate racing suits that would be used for Supercars under the Thrifty brand. When I was approached to design custom race car suits for this franchisee who will often participate in supercars in a bit of more entertainment style race separate from the supercars tournament themselves, I was a bit blown away. This project was unlike anything else I had ever done before but that didn’t shake me & I was super interested in curating something impactful that screamed Thrifty. After a few rounds of iterations & going back and forth to really perfect the suits, we landed on a strikingly impactful Thrifty race car suit that has been getting a lot of feedback positive feedback within the community – the franchisee loved it! A project like this feels a bit unreal for a graphic designer so to have had that trust to go forth was super cool & whilst I haven’t yet been able to see the suit in all its glorly, the feedback that we’ve gotten from the franchisee & community has been glowing.
